The Journal of L.M. Montgomery Studies is excited to introduce another new Journal assistant, Weiqi Tang. Weiqi is from Hunan, China. She graduated from UPEI as an Applied Communication, Leadership and Culture major in May 2021, and she also has a B.A. in English from Hainan University in China. Weiqi became the LMMI’s Social Media Coordinator in July 2021, and is responsible for Journal posts, Kindred Spirits: Behind the Curtain and Journal Wednesdays.

We would also like to send a huge thank you to Melanie Fishbane, who was the LMMI’s Digital Media Manager for 7 years before Weiqi.

Welcome Weiqi!

Sarah Freeburn, JLMMS Editorial Assistant: When were you introduced to Montgomery?

Weiqi Tang: I was introduced to Montgomery when I first came to PEI in 2017.

SF: What is your favourite Montgomery book and why?

WT: My favourite Montgomery book by far is The Blue Castle. The book has perfect character building, descriptions of nature, and humour. What I love the most about The Blue Castle is that Valancy’s story is an excellent example of what life can be if someone follows their heart.

SF: Have you seen any performances of Montgomery’s works? For example, an Anne of Green Gables play/musical/ballet etc.

WT: I went to one Anne of Green Gables Musical in 2019 with a friend from Japan. We were both touched deeply, and our biggest mistake that night was not bringing any tissue with us.

SF: Which fictional place, based off of Montgomery’s descriptions, would you most like to live? (for example, Avonlea, New Moon, Ingleside)

WT: Definitely Lake Mistawis!

SF: Have you been to any Montgomery inspired tourist attractions on the Island? If so which ones, and if not, which ones would you like to visit?

WT: I’ve only been to Green Gables Heritage Place, but  I’d love to visit L.M. Montgomery Birthplace and Anne of Green Gables Museum.
